The College of Engineering Technology at University of Alkafeel organized a scientific workshop :
"Bologna Process Framework and Modern Academic Systems." The workshop was presented by Dr. Haider Hilal from St. George's University – Newcastle, UK, on Tuesday, 4 November 2025.
The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the Bologna Process Framework and its role in developing higher education systems by standardizing criteria among international universities and raising the quality of academic outcomes. It was also to enhance understanding of the mechanisms for implementing modern academic systems based on learning outcomes and competencies, in line with international trends in university education.
The workshop included a detailed presentation of the Bologna Framework and key principles, including the credit-hour system, quality assurance, and mutual recognition of qualifications.
Dr. Hilal also discussed practical experiences in implementing the framework at European universities, offering insights into its potential adaptation to the Iraqi academic environment. This adaptation targets to contribute to curriculum development and enhance the performance of universities.
The workshop showed significant interaction from faculty members through scholarly discussions and constructive inquiries regarding the prospects of adopting this system in Iraqi higher education institutions. This system represents a promising step towards elevating the academic sector and aligning it with international standards.
