Dr. Afdhal Al-Shami, director of the Legal Custodian Office at Holy Al-Abbas Shrine, announced that the shrine organized more than 24 scientific conferences with the participation of more than 1500 researches last year, stressing the pivotal role played by the shrine in promoting scientific research and spreading knowledge.

       This came in a speech delivered by Al-Shami during the opening of the activities of the Sixth International Scientific Conference of University of Alkafeel , which witnessed the attendance of prominent figures from the members of Holy Al-Abbas Shrine board and its officials,  professors , University of Alkafeel staff and researchers from inside and outside Iraq.

    Al-Shami referred to what was stated in the eighth commandment of the supreme religious authority that urges the acquisition of knowledge and science, saying: 

Life is a multi-dimensional, deep-rooted school that requires a person to constantly strive to learn and acquire wisdom, which empowers his role in perceiving facts and avoiding mistakes. 

    More into the point , he added that scientific conferences are essential platforms for exchanging knowledge and promoting scientific research, stressing the importance of directing research towards issues that serve society and support the economic and military strength of countries. He warned against the danger of turning the conferences into routine events with limited benefits, pointing to the need to set clear, measurable goals and ensure the implementation of the resulting recommendations through effective projects and programs.

He also noted the interest of the Holy Al-Abbas Shrine in the scientific and research aspect, through its issuance of several refereed scientific journals, including: 9 quarterly journals, two quarterly journals, and a semi-annual journal. He explained that these publications contribute to the dissemination of research and the promotion of knowledge.

    Al-Shami concluded by referring to the importance of international scientific cooperation, explaining that the conference is held with the participation of international universities such as the University of Toledo and Michigan from the United States, Al-Ameed University and Al-Kafeel Specialized Hospital to support the scientific movement and provide a stimulating environment for researchers.
