The University of Alkafeel believes that academic integrity is the cornerstone of the educational and research process, and a fundamental pillar for building an academic environment based on trust, respect, and credibility. The University is committed to establishing the highest standards of scholarly honesty among its students, faculty members, and researchers. This policy outlines the principles and values related to academic integrity and the violations arising from breaching them.

Principles of Academic Integrity

Academic integrity at the University of Alkafeel is based on a set of core values: honesty in presenting scholarly work and attributing it to its authors; mutual trust among all members of the academic community; justice and fairness in assessment and treatment; respect for intellectual property rights and the scholarly efforts of others; and individual responsibility for adhering to ethical and scholarly standards.

Academic Violations

The following acts are considered violations of the Academic Integrity Policy:

Plagiarism: Using the ideas, texts, or works of others and attributing them to oneself without referencing the original source, whether in whole or in part.

Cheating in Examinations: Using any illegitimate means during examinations, including copying, using unauthorized devices or materials, or exchanging information with others.

Fabrication and Falsification: Inventing false data or research results, forging academic documents and records, or manipulating scholarly information.

Self-Plagiarism: Resubmitting work previously submitted for a grade or credit in another course or research without prior permission.

Collusion and Illegitimate Assistance: Unauthorized collaboration on individual work, or helping others commit an academic violation.

Intellectual Property Infringement: Using copyrighted materials without permission or without appropriate citation.

Student Responsibilities

The student bears the responsibility of adhering to academic integrity standards in all their work, including: submitting original work that reflects their personal effort; correctly citing the sources and references used; not participating in any form of cheating or plagiarism; and adhering to the assessment and examination instructions issued by the University.

Faculty Responsibilities

Faculty members bear the responsibility of promoting a culture of academic integrity, including: clarifying integrity standards and requirements to students; designing fair assessment methods that reduce opportunities for violations; adhering to scholarly honesty in research and publication; and addressing cases of violations according to the approved procedures.

Research and Publication

The University is committed to the highest standards of honesty in research and publication, and the following practices are prohibited: fabricating or distorting data; plagiarism in research and theses; unjustified duplicate or fragmented publication; and adding the names of researchers who did not actually contribute to the work or omitting those who did. Plagiarism detection tools are used to verify the originality of submitted scholarly work.

Procedures and Penalties

The University treats academic integrity violations seriously and according to fair procedures that guarantee the right of defense for the offender. Penalties vary according to the nature, severity, and recurrence of the violation, and may include a notice or warning, deduction of grades or failure in the course, or more severe disciplinary measures in serious or repeated cases, in accordance with the regulations and instructions in force at the University and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Awareness and Support

The University of Alkafeel is keen to spread a culture of academic integrity through awareness and guidance programs, and to provide resources that help students and researchers understand scholarly citation standards and avoid violations, believing that prevention and education are the foundation for building an honest academic community.
