Commemorating Al-Baqi Tragedy at University of Alkafeel : A Message of Loyalty and Pledge Reviving
2025 - 04 - 07

The Department of Psychological Guidance and Educational Orientation at University of Alkafeel held a memorial session in Sheikh Al-Mufid Hall in the College of Medicine on Monday, April 7, 2025, to commemorate the demolition of the graves of the Imams of Baqi (peace be upon them).

The session was attended by the President of University of Alkafeel , Prof. Dr. Nawras Mohammed Shaheed Al-Dahan, a select group of faculty and administrative staff and a group of university students.

The session began with a blessed recitation of Qur'an ayats by Sheikh. Mahdi Qalandar from the Holy Quran Institute of Holy Al-Abbas Shrine, followed by a religious lecture delivered by His Eminence Sheikh. Jaafar Al-Waeli.

In his lecture, Sheikh . Al-Waili highlighted the importance of preserving mosques and holy shrines as an essential part of Quranic culture, which urges respect for places associated with prophets, saints, and righteous people. He emphasized the need to protect these landmarks from attempts at obliteration and vandalism, and to return to Islamic texts and sources that affirm their status in Islamic law.

He pointed out that the Holy Quran calls for the construction and preservation of mosques, as they express the values of coexistence, compassion, and mutual respect among members of the Islamic community. He also warned of the danger of extremist acts targeting religious sanctities and the need to confront them with firmness and awareness.
It is worth noting that the eighth of Shawwal marks the anniversary of the demolition of the graves of the Imams of Baqi (peace be upon them): Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba, Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn Zayn al-Abidin, Imam Muhammad ibn Ali al-Baqir, and Imam Ja'far ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq (peace be upon them). These holy shrines were demolished nearly a century ago by the enemies and haters of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), an event that continues to cause grief and sorrow in the hearts of believers around the world.
