On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the College of Medicine held a continuing education workshop supervised by Asst.Lect. Dhu al-Fiqar Kamil, to reinforce the skills of the students in drawing blood and collecting medical samples correctly and safely.
The workshop included a detailed explanation of the components of blood and the types of needles and tubes used, the steps for preparing the patient, sterilization techniques, selecting appropriate veins, and drawing venous and capillary blood according to occupational safety standards.
Participants received practical training on the correct use of medical instruments, identifying common errors during blood drawing, and methods for handling samples after drawing and safely disposing of medical waste.
The workshop recommended the necessity of adhering to hygiene and sterilization procedures, verifying the identity of the patient , providing regular training for healthcare personnel, and paying attention to the psychological aspect of the patient to reduce anxiety during blood drawing procedures.
