The Department of Medical Laboratory Technologies at the College of Medical and Health Technologies, University of Alkafeel , organized a scientific lecture: “Amebic Dysentery,” presented by Asst.Prof. Mohammed Redha Ahmed Hashem Al-Sharifi, on Monday, 10 November 2025.
The lecture aimed to introduce the causes of amoebic dysentery, its accompanying symptoms, and the methods used for diagnosis, especially in areas suffering from inadequate health services and poor hygiene, which increases the spread of the disease.
The lecturer explained that this disease is a common parasitic infection caused by a protozoan parasite that inhabits the large intestine (colon), causing ulcers that lead to bloody diarrhea and other health complications if left untreated.
At the end of the lecture, he recommended promoting health awareness and adhering to hygiene and preventative health measures to limit the spread of the disease, while emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis to ensure a speedy recovery.
