Lifelong Learning Unit at the College of Dentistry, University of Alkafeel , organized a scientific awareness lecture : "Drug Prevention: Between Awareness and Action" on Monday,17 November 2025. The lecture was presented by Dr. Shaker Abdul-Ridha Abbas and Dr. Furqan Hashim Hussein.
The aim was to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs to students and society, clarify the correct scientific concepts about addiction and its effects, empower students to make sound decisions, protect them from harmful behaviors, and support preventive efforts within the university.
The event included a comprehensive scientific and awareness-raising presentation on the dangers of drug use and its physical, psychological, and social effects, emphasizing the importance of moving from simply knowing the risks to adopting effective preventative measures. The lecturers also reviewed early indicators of drug use, methods of prevention, and strategies for dealing with groups most vulnerable to addiction.
There were several recommendations : intensifying awareness lectures in the university, strengthening the role of psychological and educational orientation units in prevention efforts, encouraging student participation in educational and preventative programs, and disseminating awareness materials about the dangers and effects of drugs through the college platforms.
