The College of Pharmacy at University of Alkafeel organized a training course : " on Radiological, Biological and Chemical Safety Standards " . The course was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Noor Hassoun Kadhim to highlight the fundamentals of occupational safety within the laboratory, focusing on prevention mechanisms and managing potential risks. He also explained the hazards of chemical and biological materials and the proper methods for handling them to ensure a safe working environment that protects the health of employees and the safety of scientific facilities.
The training course covered the principles of radiation safety and how to minimize exposure to hazardous sources, as well as emergency response procedures in the event of laboratory accidents. The aim was to enhance the ability of the participants to make appropriate preventative decisions and reduce the probability of future risks.
There were several recommendations : strict adherence to safety instructions in laboratories, the provision of personal protective equipment, the development of a clear risk management plan, the promotion of a culture of awareness and safety among all staff, and adherence to proper storage procedures for chemical, biological, and radioactive materials.
