On Saturday, 28 March 2026, the Lifelong Learning Center and the Department of Psychological Guidance and Educational Orientation at University of Alkafeel held an awareness lecture : "Psychological and Social Dimensions of Drug Addiction." The lecture, presented by Counsl. Noor Maitham Abbas, targeted first-year medical students.
The lecture highlighted the concept of addiction and its impact on the individual and society, clarifying the relationship between addiction and psychological disorders such as anxiety and depression, as well as the motivations for drug use, such as curiosity, psychological pressures, and escapism. It also addressed the effects of addiction on behavior and personality, the role of psychological trauma, and analyzed the role of family, friends, and the social environment in preventing or contributing to addiction.
The lecture presented methods for preventing addiction and emphasized the importance of community awareness and psychological and social support in treatment, highlighting the role of rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
There were specific recommendations : strengthening awareness programs about the dangers of addiction, supporting psychological counseling for students, spreading a culture of prevention, paying attention to mental health and reducing stress, activating the role of the family and encouraging students to seek support when needed, and enhancing cooperation with relevant authorities to combat addiction.
