The Department of Psychological Guidance and Educational Orientation at University of Alkafeel , in cooperation with the College of Science, organized a guidance lecture : “ Negative Effects of Social Media and Means of Management .” The lecture was presented by Asst. Lect. Noor Safaa Al-Shaibani on Monday, 20 April 2026, and targeted first-year students in the Medical Physics Department.
The lecture addressed the most prominent negative effects of social media on psychological, social, familial, academic, and health aspects : anxiety, distraction, weakened real-life relationships, and decreased concentration and academic performance that it can cause. It also focused on the ethical and behavioral aspects and the impact of some digital content on the moral values of the students , emphasizing the importance of awareness and discernment in dealing with the published data on these platforms. The lecturer emphasized the importance of using social media consciously and responsibly by managing time, selecting appropriate content, developing one's psychological well-being, and adopting positive alternatives that contribute to achieving psychological and social balance.
