2026 - 07 - 12

University of Alkafeel  proceeds with commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn al-Sajjad Zayn al-Abidin (peace be upon him). The  Psychological Guidance Department held a mourning ceremony today, Sunday 12July  2026, in the Sheikh al-Mufid Hall. The ceremony was attended by the University President, Prof.Dr. Nawras Muhammed Shaheed al-Dahhan, the Vice-Chancellor for Scientific Affairs, Prof.Dr. Nawal Ayed al-Mayali, deans of colleges, their deputies, heads of departments, a number of faculty members and staff.

The gathering began with a blessed recitation of ayats from Glorious Quran by Seid. Muhannad Al-Mayali, Director of Glorious Quran Institute affiliated with the Holy al-Abbas  Shrine in Najaf. This was followed by a religious lecture delivered by Dr. Ibrahim Al-Nasrawi, who discussed several blessed ayats that recounted the lives of the prophets and great figures immortalized in Quran. He emphasized that the Book of Allah calls for reflection upon their lives and drawing lessons and inspiration from their stances on faith, steadfastness, patience, and obedience to Allah the Almighty.

The lecturer also discussed the life of the Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him), highlighting his role in building the Holy Kaaba and citing the ayat :  “And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer” He explained the emphasis of the ayat on venerating the sacred rites of Allah , establishing the sanctity of the Holy House, and encouraging connection to holy sites and visits to sacred shrines, given their impact on strengthening faith and spirituality.

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Nasrawi highlighted the character of Imam Ali ibn Al-Husayn Al-Sajjad Zayn Al-Abidin (peace be upon him), reviewing his scholarly and spiritual stature, his patience, asceticism, and devotion, and his significant role in preserving the Islamic message after the tragedy of Karbala. He also discussed the role of the Imam in spreading knowledge and establishing ethical and humanitarian principles despite the tragedies and suffering he endured until his martyrdom, leaving behind an eternal example of patience, reform, and devotion to Allah.  Dr. Al-Nasrawi cited the opening of the Imam's famous sermon in Yazid's court: "“O people, we were granted six things and favored with seven," emphasizing the profound meaning it conveys, which embodies the status and virtue of the Ahlul-Bayt (peace be upon them).

Such a session is part of the religious and cultural programs that University of Alkafeel  is keen to hold in commemoration of the occasions of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them), to consolidate Quranic and faith-based values, enhance religious and cultural awareness in the university community, and draw lessons and inspiration from the lives of the Prophets and the Imams (peace be upon them) in building individuals and society.
