On Monday, 14 September 2026, the College of Medicine at University of Alkafeel held a workshop  : "Enhancing Medical Education in Iraq: From Active Learning to Interactive Teaching Practices." Held at the Al-Muhaqqiq Al-Hilli Hall, the event was sponsored by the University President, Prof. Dr. Nawras Muhammed Sheed Al-Dahan, and attended by the Dean of the College of Medicine, Asst. Prof. Dr. Samer Makki Al-Hakkak, his scientific and administrative deputies and faculty members from various educational and healthcare institutions .

Prof. Dr. Hilal Bahjat Al-Saffar led the workshop, discussing modern educational methods and the application of adult learning principles. These approaches aim to improve teaching techniques, make the educational process more interactive and effective, and foster a deeper understanding among students.

The workshop focused on shifting from traditional methods, characterized by the mere narration and rote delivery of information, to student-centered approaches. This involves transforming lectures from simple information presentations into learning experiences grounded in critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving, while also transitioning the instructor's role from a mere conveyor of information to a guide and facilitator of the learning process. The workshop also addressed the importance of linking theoretical knowledge with practical and professional application, helping students utilize the knowledge they acquire in professional contexts and enhancing their readiness for the demands of medical practice.

The lecturer noted that the workshop is part of a faculty development program at the College of Medicine aimed at enhancing curricula, teaching methods, and assessment techniques. This initiative aligns with modern trends and standards in medical education and contributes to preparing physicians who possess the knowledge and skills necessary for effective and safe medical practice.
