On Monday, 21 September 2026, the College of Technical Engineering at University of Alkafeel held a training workshop : "Selecting the Appropriate Journal for Publishing Scientific Research." Presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Jassim Al-Amiri, the workshop aimed to enhance the skills in selecting suitable scientific journals for their work, based on rigorous academic standards.
The workshop addressed key criteria for journal selection, most notably the alignment of the journal's scope with the research topic and specialization, as well as the clarity of publication policies and peer-review procedures. It also covered mechanisms for verifying journal indexing, citation metrics, and scientific rankings using official sources.
Furthermore, the workshop discussed criteria for verifying the credibility of scientific journals and ways to avoid "unreliable journals" by checking publisher and editorial board details, peer-review and publication processes, and the validity of indexing claims and data published on official websites.
The session included practical exercises on verifying journal data and assessing suitability for the research, and an overview of requirements for preparing manuscripts for publication and an emphasis on adhering to scientific publication ethics.
