On Saturday, 24 October 2026, the College of Medicine at University of Alkafeel organized a scientific workshop, presented by Dr. Mohammed Jaafar Zain al-Din.
The workshop addressed meningitis as a significant health challenge, highlighting the dangers of its bacterial forms due to their severe neurological complications. It also examined the epidemiological landscape of the disease, locally, regionally, and globally, with a specific focus on the health situation in Iraq and the necessity of strengthening surveillance systems and early laboratory diagnosis.
The speaker emphasized the pivotal role of vaccines and the importance of increasing vaccination coverage to curb the spread of the disease, in alignment with the World Health Organization’s roadmap to defeat meningitis by 2030.
This initiative reflects the commitment of the college to supporting lifelong medical learning and fostering a culture of prevention among medical professionals and the broader community.
