Holy Al-Abbas Shrine Avers Central Graduation Ceremony as Model of National Unity
2025 - 04 - 10

Such a speech is delivered by Mr. Maher Khalid, head of the University and School Relations Division of the Public Relations Department at the Holy Shrine, during the launch of the fifth edition of the ceremony, organized by the division on the slogan "From the Rain of Karbala, Generosity Sprouts," as part of the Al-Kafeel National Youth Project. Approximately 5,000 students represent 64 universities across Iraq's governorates  in the ceremony.

The speech began by welcoming the studentparticipants in the ceremony, congratulating them on the conclusion of their academic journey under the shade of the Holy Shrine of Al-Abbas , the city of Imam Hussein and his brother, Abu al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him). He urged them to exert their utmost efforts in serving Iraq and its people, and to preserve the academic trust they bear.

In his speech, Mr. Maher Khalid said: "The graduation ceremony project for Iraqi university students was launched in 2011 under the blessed patronage of the legal custodian of the Holy Shrine, His Eminence, Seid. Ahmed al-Safi (may his glory last ). It was the first seed in the universities of the central and southern regions, and over time, it expanded to include all Iraqi universities from the north to the south." He added, "Holy Al;-Abbas Shrine holds this ceremony for several reasons :Holy Shrine becomes as a haven for Iraqi unity under its dome, as there is no difference between Arabs, Kurds, and Turkmen; they all come together in the name of Iraq. In addition, it connects the academic graduation process with the spirit of the message of faith, as when a university degree is blessed in His house and carries a double responsibility: the responsibility of knowledge and morality."

He explained that "Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) was not only a symbol of sacrifice, but also a role model of obedience, discipline, and insight—the same values we need today in the arenas of work, reform, and nation-building." He noted that "the ceremony sends a message to the world that Iraq is not built with weapons alone, but with these young people who stand today in their graduation gowns, facing history with eyes brimming with knowledge, dignity, and belonging."

He continued, "We believe that whoever stands on the land of Karbala should remember the blood that watered this land for the sake of truth. The Holy AL-Abbas Shrine does not only want to remain a preserver of heritage, but also a guardian of the present and a maker of the future. It shares the joys of the nation's people, honors its distinguished students, and embraces brilliant minds to develop them as leaders of change, not followers of tradition. It also aims to connect generations: those who were martyred for their values, those who graduated to serve them, the blood of Karbala, and the ink of the pen, the glorious past and the desired future."
The Holy Abbasid Shrine aims to hold this ceremony to celebrate the graduates, present a distinguished model for graduation ceremonies befitting university students, and crown and conclude their academic journey at the holy shrines.
