University of Alkafeel – College of Medicine Holds Workshop : “ Dangers of Drug Addiction”
2025 - 11 - 18

In the presence of the ministerial committee responsible for the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week program, the College of Medicine at University of Alkafeel  held an educational workshop :“Dangers of Drug Addiction.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Qusay Mohsen Kadhim on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, and was attended by a number of professors, university staff, and students.

The workshop addressed the topic of drug addiction from a specialized medical perspective. It included a detailed description of the phenomenon of addiction and its effects on the human mind and other organs of the body, in addition to its medical, psychological, and social repercussions. The workshop focused on the role of medical professionals in diagnosing addiction cases and educating the community on preventing and treating this phenomenon.

The workshop also addressed the most common and less common types of drugs and discussed types of addiction that some may overlook but which pose a danger that must be addressed to protect individuals and society. A key point emphasized was the need to protect healthcare professionals from the risk of addiction themselves, given their direct exposure to numerous medications, sedatives, and substances that can be addictive without their awareness.

There was a focus on the differences between intentional addiction resulting from the user's deliberate use and addiction resulting from medication misuse or ignorance of its proper use, and explained methods of prevention and treatment for both types.

This workshop is part of a series of awareness activities that University of Alkafeel commits to conducting to raise the level of health and community awareness among students, promote a safe university environment, and activate the role of educational institutions in disseminating a culture of protection against addiction and reducing the spread of this phenomenon.
