The College of Medical and Health Technologies at University of Alkafeel organized an educational workshop on Assimilation of Connected Speech in the English Language on Saturday, November 25, 2023, presented by Asst. lectur. Muhammad Abdul Hassan Mohsin. The workshop aimed to improve the English language skills of the staff, focusing on how to sound natural when speaking English. It introduced the concept of assimilation in the English language, a phonetic change that occurs when some vowel or consonant sounds typically change to become more similar to adjacent sounds, either within a word or between two adjacent words, common in regular speech and more prevalent in faster speech. In some cases, the resultant sound differs from the correct natural pronunciation due to assimilation, such as when two double vowel sounds follow each other in a word, resulting in a new sound due to the overlap of the vowel sounds.
